The Emergence of the Love of God Community (LOGC). A spiritual experience in October 1999 has brought Rafaelito Barino and Fe Mantuhac – Barino to a journey of faith. Through the couple’s initiatives, Catholic Life in the Spirit Seminars, introduced by Amor Dei Catholic Charismatic Community, were conducted in San Vicente, Liloan, Cebu. Under the spiritual direction of Msgr. Fred Kriekenbeek, Episcopal Vicar of the Archdiocese of Cebu for Charismatic Renewal and with the support of then Parish Priest of San Roque Parish in Yati, Liloan, Cebu, Rev. Fr. Rolando Manayon, the Love of God Community (LOGC) was eventually organized.

The LOGC was formally commissioned and recognized in the Archdiocese of Cebu as a covenanted and transparochial community on September 11,2001with Lito and Fe Barino as Presiding Shepherds and Rev. Fr. Ivan P. Petilos as its Spiritual Formator from November 11, 2001 to September 11, 2008.

The Creation of Kaalam Foundation, Inc. (KFI). Part of the LOGC’s thrust was to address the needs of its members, not only for spiritual but also for their temporal needs. Hence, the creation of KAALAM FOUNDATION, INC. KFI was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on January 13, 2004. The incorporators and Board of Trustees were: Rafaelito A. Barino, Fe M.Barino, Joselito H. Mantuhac, Hilario H. Mantuhac, Jr., Ritchel M. Abella, Rev. Fr. Ivan P. Petilos, Ramon T. Villacastin, Luzviminda Villacastin, Dioscoro M. Cabahug, and Arceles. L. Cabahug.

KFI Life Educational Center (KFI-LEC). One of the projects of Kaalam Foundation Inc. was the KFI LIFE EDUCATIONAL CENTER. The purpose was to establish a school anchored on strong spiritual values, not only for the children of Love of God Community members, but for the society as well.

Rev. Fr. Ivan Petilos organized the school and acted as the School Administrator. The school started with a one-classroom Nursery School, housed in one of the buildings inside Duros Complex. Two years later, Duros Development Corp. constructed the school building located in Yati, Liloan, Cebu, for the Elementary and High School. The groundbreaking of the school building was held on October 1, 2006, during the feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus. Prayers were offered and placed inside a time capsule laid on the spot where the chapel of the building is located. Since then, St. Therese of the Child Jesus has become the patroness of the school.

The 4-storey school building was inaugurated on May 19, 2007 on the occasion of the 55th birthday of Rafaelito Barino, attended by church and government officials. A St. Therese hymn, composed by Melvin Corpin was first sung during the blessing.

The First Graduates. December 8, 2008, on the Feast of Immaculate Conception, Dr. Nonita P. Legaspi joined KFI LEC as School Director and Principal. School policies and academic structures were strengthened.

In March 2009, KFI-LEC saw its first 15 graduates from the Grade School. A complete High School was opened in June 2009 where 5 students graduated from High School in March 2010.

Divine Life Institute of Cebu, Inc. In order to give a distinct personality with full benefits provided by law as an educational institution, the name and corporate structure of the school was changed from KFI LIFE EDUCATIONAL CENTER (a project of the KAALAM FOUNDATION, INC.) to DIVINE LIFE INSTITUTE OF CEBU. Divine Life Institute of Cebu, Inc. was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on December 8, 2009, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The change of name had been approved by the Department of Education before the School Year 2009-2010 ended.

On December 8, 2011, Mr.Hilario H. Mantuhac, Jr. joined DLIC as President. Additional school facilities were constructed.

On March 12, 2013 Divine Life Institute of Cebu was certified as a Fund for Assistance to Private Education – Educational Service Contracting (FAPE-ESC) member school.

In school year 2016 – 2017, DLIC opened its first batch of the Senior High School students for General Academic Strand (GAS). Likewise, in the same school year, Mr. Romelito H. Mantuhac was appointed as the new President who also initiated the application for the Technichal Vocational and Livelihood Track.  He spearheaded the construction of the tech-voc building which caters the Home Economics, ICT and Industrial Arts strands.

In order to address the needs of the growing population, a new Directress of the Basic Education and the Principal, in the person of Mdm. Ingrid M. Bohol was taken in for SY 2017 – 2018.  It is also in the same school year where DLIC applied and granted for additional SHS track offerings – STEM, HUMSS and ABM.

Amidst the challenges of the times, DLIC continues to respond of providing relevant and quality Catholic education to the stakeholders. Hence, a new school vision-mission was crafted to align with the new direction of the school and with the goals of the Philippine educational system.
